T he walk-a-thon is an annual three mile walk through downtown Derry. After the
walk, participants are invited to gather in a local church for free pizza,
refreshments and raffle drawings. Free T-shirts illustrating the annual theme of
the walk-a-thon are given to all participants.
The focus of the walk-a-thon last year was to raise awareness of the dangers of
underage drinking. A poster contest was held in Derry challenging local Middle
School students to express the year's theme artistically. The winners are posted
below. All entries were creative and imaginative. The artwork and slogans were
on display following the walk-a-thon at a local church. Educational materials
related to the theme were made available for participants.
C.A.T.S. remains committed to encouraging young people to make positive choices
in their lives and to making the prevention of underage drinking a community
priority.
This event is an annual fundraising and awareness event. Although C.A.T.S. is
supported in part by various federal, state and local funding agents, it relies
on donations from community participation and area businesses to make its
program successful. C.A.T.S. is a non-profit corporation recognized under
Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Donations are appreciated but not required to participate in the annual
walk-a-thon. Donations in the form of checks or money orders are accepted at any
time and can be mailed to the address listed below.
